Host Feedback for
J. Courtney Sullivan

J. Courtney Sullivan was the featured speaker for our Library’s fourth Annual Novel Tea, a ticketed luncheon at a local country club raising much needed funds to support library resources, technology, collections, and programs. Courtney was generous with her time and authentic in her storytelling. The sentiment I kept hearing again and again after the event was “I just want to get a drink with her!” or “It feels like we’re friends!” She was the perfect author for our Novel Tea. She was one of my favorite authors we’ve worked with- a real joy and nice ease about her.

It is a pleasure to recommend Courtney Sullivan to your organization! She has spoken at our Author Literary Luncheon events at the upscale Wequassett Resort in the summers of 2012, 2013, and 2017, and charmed us all from the first moment she stepped in front of the microphone! She is a funny and engaging speaker, with thoughtful commentary and an uncommon warmth with her audience. She really connects with people! Her talks have been terrific, and her Q&A sessions truly stand-out. She was relaxed and poised, and our readers had many thoughtful questions especially about her research for SAINTS FOR ALL OCCASIONS. Her participation was part of our Author Literary Luncheon Series for which we sell tickets for an upscale lunch with authors at the Wequassett Resort. We energized readers prior to her events with sincere enthusiastic word of mouth outreach through the bookstore, and jacket image posters, flyers and banners, and outreach to our e-newsletter lists and local media connections. She has a strong following on her own, as well.
I have no doubt that she will be a successful addition to your author events!

Courtney Sullivan was an amazing guest author for the Newtown Bookshop. She was featuring her novel, SAINTS FOR ALL OCCASIONS at this event. Courtney talked for about 30-40 minutes about her book which included a reading and a section about the research for the book. She told some fascinating stories about her family and about cloistered nuns that she visited at this time. Courtney also spent another 15 minutes taking questions from the audience who very engaged in the talk. Finally she signed books and met with all the guests. We got great feedback from the guests and from the staff of the school where we had the event.

I could not say enough great things about Courtney Sullivan. Courtney has come to Duxbury for author events and our summer literary festival BookBreeze for each of her books and our literary community loves her. She was also the keynote speaker for a Friends of the Duxbury Free Library fundraiser in the summer of 2019 that was a sellout—and a huge success thanks to her generous spirit and her energy before, during an event after the event—she is a master at making connections. Courtney has a unique way of connecting to the audience with her charm, humor, and intelligence. Every member of the audience (which included many bookclubs) not only enjoyed her stories about being an author and writing books, they felt like they knew her. She has also been inspiring and helpful to other writers who have been to her events who felt encouraged and motivated by Courtney’s talks. Duxbury loves Courtney.
