Disney is Bringing Coco to the Stage

With a score by Michael Giacchino, and additional songs from the composer-lyricist team from Frozen [Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez], Coco is now in development at Disney on Broadway to become a live stage show!”
In a video shared by LaughingPlace, Gonzalez can also be seen performing “Remember Me”, the Oscar winning song from the original film.
Additional details have not yet been released, but should Coco come to stage, it would arguably be the first time Disney Theatricals has brought a film to the Broadway stage that was not a musical on screen. While Coco has music incorporated throughout, the songs are all diagetic and not used to make the film a movie musical.
Lopez and Anderson-Lopez explained at the time of the film’s release that they had written a musical treatment of the film prior to the tonal shift; only time will tell if their original material makes its way back into the stage version. The duo is experienced at bringing Pixar properties to the stage; Lopez and Anderson-Lopez previously wrote an original score for a 40-minute stage musical of the 2003 non-musical film Finding Nemo, which performed at Disney World’s Animal Kingdom from 2006 to 2020. This work was recently expanded to become Finding Nemo JR., part of Music Theatre International’s Broadway Junior catalog of musicals designed for performers aged 18 and under.
