Explore Sherri Duskey Rinker’s Covey of Picture Books

“I cherish the time I have spent reading with my kids – cozied up together, experiencing stories through their eyes. Although our shelves were stocked full of books, they were (and are) the one thing I could never refuse or resist buying,” Explains New York Times bestselling children’s author Sherri Duskey Rinker.

Sherri is the author of FIVE New York Times bestselling picture books, including the #1 bestselling Goodnight, Goodnight, Construction Site Series (Chronicle Books). She also authored Steam Train, Dream Train and the nonfiction picture book biography Big Machines: The Story of Virginia Lee Burton (HMH, illust. by John Rocco). Some of her other titles include The 12 Sleighs of Christmas (Chronicle, illust. by Jake Parker), Tiny and the Big Dig (Scholastic, illust. by Matt Myers) and Celebrate YOU! (Balzer+Bray, illust. by A.N. Kang). Her first middle-grade novel, Revver The Speedway Squirrel, debuts fall 2020 (Bloomsbury, illust. by Alex Willan) with a sequel scheduled for 2021.

Rinker says it all began, “In 2008, in the midst of hectically trying to manage the demands of being a working mom in a career I no longer loved, I wrote Construction Site, and it was picked up by the first publisher to whom it was sent (Thank you, Chronicle! It’s the literary equivalent of winning the lottery, I realize.) It’s been an unexpected and wonderful journey, and I’m deeply grateful.”

She attributes her penchant for masterfully creating children’s books to her grandmother and Virginia Lee Burton – who inspired through reading out loud the whimsical, beautiful pages of The Little House and Mike Mulligan.
