Plant Baby Plant: An Environmental Movement Led by Robin Wall Kimmerer

“The mantra “Drill, Baby, Drill” represents a worldview and value system that has led us all to the edge of global climate catastrophe.

It doesn’t have to be this way. We don’t have to sit by while the world we love is in danger.

Author, scientist, and Indigenous teacher Robin Wall Kimmerer is issuing a Call to Action — an invitation to all of us to find new ways to ally ourselves with the good green world.

Plants know what to do to slow climate change, but they can’t do it alone.

Will you join us and pick up a shovel?

Plant Baby Plant is a grassroots movement of people taking meaningful, regenerative action to care for the Earth—in the garden and in the streets. Our goals are to:

HEAL LAND

To plant trees, raise gardens of all kinds, protect wetlands, restore prairies, and so much more.

BUILD COMMUNITY

To support and widen the broad community of people who work with the land.

GROW POWER

To transform love of land into political change through acts of creative resistance.

Robin’s Latest Work: Bud Finds Her Gift

When young Bud sees people bustling around, intent on their chores and their screens, she is certain they must be doing important things—and she wants to be included. But wise Nokomis, her grandmother, shows her that there is a different way to find belonging, one that relies on stillness and observing the natural world. As Bud discovers the freely given gifts of the Earth, she wonders if she has something important to give back:

What is her gift?

Infused with warmth, humor, and insight, and beautifully illustrated by Naoko Stoop, the first picture book by renowned author and Indigenous ecologist Robin Wall Kimmerer inspires readers to treasure nature’s generosity and the gifts each one of us can share with the Earth.
