Netflix’s adaptation of Shelby Van Pelt’s bestselling novel Remarkably Bright Creatures won the Emmy for Outstanding Film at the 78th Creative Arts Emmy Awards on September 6, 2026.
Directed by Olivia Newman, the film stars Sally Field as Tova Sullivan, a lonely widow who forms an unexpected friendship with Marcellus, an intelligent giant Pacific octopus voiced by Alfred Molina. Field was also nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. The Emmy win marks a major milestone for Van Pelt’s beloved novel as its story continues to reach audiences on both the page and screen.
