Gaming as Storytelling

Video games are a unique storytelling medium because they can communicate narrative not only through what players see and hear, but also through what players do, discover, experience, and interpret. This 30-40 minute presentation looks at gaming as a storytelling medium with an emphasis on my favorite horror games. This presentation is appropriate for high school and up.

Why We Love Dark Stories: Horror, Catharsis, and the Human Condition

This talk explores how horror can be meaningful beyond its ability to frighten. Horror often explores subjects that other genres approach differently; morality, uncertainty, loss, guilt, grief, isolation, and the consequences of human decisions. I discuss how horror is used in fiction, particularly the way it is used in children’s fiction. This is good for adult audiences.
